Innovations and Patents
Dr Sanket Pisat has two worldwide firsts in the field of laparoscopic gynecological surgery - an innovative instrument and a new surgical technique, both that significantly enhance patient safety in laparoscopic fibroid removal surgery
Both techniques are published, accepted and widely practiced by surgeons in India and the rest of the world
The Visual Vasopressor Injection Needle
The VVIN is a patented invention that enhances patient safety in laparoscopic fibroid removal surgery. In laparoscopic myomectomy, a drug called vasopressin is injected into the fibroid to temporarily reduce bleeding during surgery
For the procedure to be safe, this drug must be injected around the blood vessels rather than into them. If injected into the vessel, it can cause serious side effects like cardiac arrest, low blood pressure, stroke and much more
The existing instruments do not allow the surgeon to surely confirm that this injection is not being made into the blood vessels, hence this important part of the surgery is left uncontrolled.
This problem is directly addressed by the VVIN, which allows the surgeon to ascertain with 100 percent surety, that the injection is not being made into the blood vessel. This significantly enhances patient safety
