The Problem
Vasopressin is a vaso constrictive drug that is injected into the capsule over the fibroid to decrease blood loss in laparoscopic myomectomy. If injected wrongly into a blood vessel over the fibroid, it could cause catastrophic effects to the patient's health or life.
The standard vasopressin injection needles made of metal or plastic are about 35 cm long and completely opaque. Even if the surgeon aspirates with his/her syringe, it is virtually impossible to raise a blood column high enough to see blood in the syringe connected to the needle, as blood vessels over the fibroid capsule are very small. Hence, it is impossible to detect whether the needle is located in a blood vessel.
The Solution
The EzVu® Visual Vasopressor Injection Needle incorporates a transparent tip at the terminal end of the needle, making it possible to visualize blood at a volume of 0.03 ml (less than one drop) of blood, making it virtually impossible to miss an inadvertent intravascular puncture. The surgeon can then simply reposition the needle and inject at another site
